TREATMENTS

Therapeutic Massage

A Therapeutic Massage treatment can consist of these different techniques including Asian Bodywork Therapy and Energy work within a 60, 90, or 120 minute session. Swedish Massage is the foundational technique used and the other techniques may be incorporated within the session depending on the therapist and the needs of the client.

Swedish Massage

The intention of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and to release toxins from the muscles by flushing the tissues of metabolic wastes. The use of long strokes, kneading, and friction techniques are utilized on the more superficial layers of the muscles  and may be combined with active and passive movements of the joints.  Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain and is very effective in reducing stress and tension.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue to help break up and eliminate scar tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow
strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons, and fascia.

Sports Massage

The main purpose of sports massage is to help alleviate stress and tension which builds up in the body's soft tissues during physical activity.  Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion
and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively.  The massage will help prepare the body for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility, and to prevent injuries.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is one of the key components of the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM.) It is the utilization of fine needles that are inserted in specific points of the body to elicit a healing response. In TCM, the body is seen as the balance of two opposing and inseparable forces of "yin" and "yang". Yin represents the cold, slow, or passive principle, while Yang is the representation of the hot, excited, or active principle.  One of the beliefs of TCM is that health is achieved by maintaining the body in a balanced homeostatic state and that disease may be due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance can lead to a blockage of "qi" (vital energy) along the meridians or energy pathways of the body.  Along these meridians are the acupoints and it is at these sites the needles are inserted to regulate the functional activities of the body to promote and enhance health and well-being. (Acupuncture treatments always include therapeutic massage and sometimes cupping depending on the needs of the client.)

BELMONT PILATES

The rise in popularity of mind and body exercise brought about the introduction of Pilates Mat Classes to The Belmont in 1998. Now the Belmont Pilates program has introduced Pilates Allegro* Reformer Group Training Classes.
Students will enjoy small group classes with an instructor closely monitoring each person’s progress. Training is based on their level of ability and needs in order to achieve the students desired goals. Semi-Private and Private Sessions are also available for those clients with more personal and specific needs.

THE BENEFITS

The exercises focus on integration – working the entire body as a complete unit. Still, learning to focus on and isolate muscle groups is a key component. This emphasis on precise movement patterns helps the participant benefit in many ways:

  • Create functional movement patterns important to everyday living
  • Develop proper body poster by working to restore natural spinal alignment
  • Strong core musculature: flatter abdominals and a stronger back
  • Alleviate pain and tension
  • Prevent injury
  • Helps enhance activities of daily living as well as athletic performance
  • Increase in breathing capacity and circulation
Because education and certification is a major factor in choosing our staff, The Belmont Athletic Club has established the reputation in our community of being knowledgeable and component. Each of the instructors in our Pilates program has completed teacher-training course through accredited institutions endorsed by the Pilates Method Alliance. The PMA is the nationally recognized organization formed to regulate the quality of Pilates instruction worldwide. The success of the program is largely due to the quality of our instructors and their attention to detail.
